Resident Evil, probably the most popular horror franchise known to date, with millions of fans worldwide consuming various medias relating to it from games, movies and even comic form day to day. However for some gamers who adore the franchise there is another side to RE than just its basic horror aesthetics and standard story, what is this you may ask? well its known as a ''Speed run''.

Now speed running as its referred to is by no means exclusive to RE but it is definitely one of the most popular genres in the speed running community that gamers love to run and this has amassed a cult following of horror enthusiasts worldwide to compete against each other personally and in online leader boards such as Speedrun.com . So why am I talking about RE or Speed running at all? Well for one simple reason that streamers banded together to create a ''Resident Evil Marathon'' this past August all for the purpose of showcasing various titles in the RE game verse for the goal of raising money for a charity close to their hearts.
It was hosted by a Twitch streamer MattRPD & Team RPD in collaboration with Biohazard Declassified, who is known for holding previous world records in RE games and for his showmanship, a perfect combo when mixed with dedicated organisers and other streamers to bring attention to the event as a whole via his channel while raising funds for Save The Children.

A lot of other streamers in the Speedrunning/RE communities were involved also as well as the voice actor for Leon Kennedy from the Resident Evil 2 (2019) remake even maming an appearance to show is support, Nick Apostolides.
In total the RE Marathon raised $4070.00 for the charity by the end of the 3 days with a peak of almost 2000 viewers which is an incredible accomplishment that all involved were very proud of, this money will benefit young children suffering during our current Covid-19 crisis throughout the United Kingdom.

Now onto its future, in April 2021, the marathon will be returning for its 2nd outing on Twitch, this time organisers have promised it to be ''bigger and better than ever with more involvement by RE voice actors'' which I don't doubt it will be given the achievements from the previous event.
The 2020 marathon was also only 3 days in comparison to the 2021 event which is to be 5 days in total (April 1st-5th), this certainly gives more room to raising an even larger final total for a charity once again and therefore more RE related content to be put into the mix with a greater number of streamers getting a chance to display their skills to the world.
April may still be a way off but everyone involved with the event is eagerly working away to make sure that they are ready in time for an explosive return for the RE Marathon.
