Survival horror, for some it brings excitement, for others, well it brings nothing but dread and what franchise is at the centre of this genre?
Resident Evil.

In the 90s Capcom brought about the rise of survival horror with the release of the first resident evil game, a cult classic that started a trend of wanting terrifying thrills from gaming. Over the following years we saw more and more entries in the series of RE but the fan favourite 3 always remains the peak of the classic entries.
Flash forward to 2019 and we saw the return of classic Resident Evil but re-imagined in the world of Resident Evil 2 Remake for modern consoles/PCs. Obviously an incredible game in so many ways however fans craved more and wanted to see a modern remake of the third entry.

1 year goes by and that’s exactly what fans got in Resident Evil 3 Remake.
April 3rd 2020 the “R3make” hit stores worldwide and here we are, all caught up and ready to dive into everything RE!
I got the game a few weeks back myself and overall the ambitious remake is an incredible experience that gets those nostalgia juices flowing in all new modern visuals. The voice acting and animations in-particular are one if not the BEST aspect ''R3MAKE'' with the plot staying mostly the same as the classic from the 90's in terms of story beats but generally being re-imagined for a more streamline and at times on rails experience.
The game focuses on the american town of raccoon city which is home to the pharmaceutical company Umbrella, which for those who played the original RE know all too well that they are not the good guys. Jill Valentine, a member of S.T.A.R.S (special branch of law enforcement) in investigating Umbrella following on from the events of the first game. As she does this the city falls into chaos from a zombie outbreak on a scale she has never seen but before she has chance to escape she is attacked and pursued by our favourite tyrant, Nemesis.

The story then progresses through multiple locations as the plot opens up to changes and reworked dialogue between the classic characters before coming to its epic conclusion in a whole new way. The largest change by far is that Nemesis now only pursues you dynamically in the first area, Downtown. After this initial area he is relegated to boss encounters only which is by far the games biggest weakness bar its super short playtime.
The visuals are insanely detailed, performance of the game on each platform being smooth while all the time treating your ears to a beautifully designed soundtrack which compliments the entire experience greatly. I played on PlayStation 4 and in short, loved my time with this title, so much so I even went for the platinum.
Resident Evil 3 (2020) in short is a fantastic but flawed experience, what could have been a 10/10 is now a solid 7/10, falling short of a masterpiece to just being okay all round. It for sure will remain a divisive game between new, old and casual fans.
