Avengers War For Wakanda DLC Is A Positive Step Forward

Avengers released last September in (2020) to a highly mixed reception, some fans loving it for what it was and some hating it for being a total disappointment. It was a true marmite like title with various good points but also a fair amount of bad.
If you did not know, Avengers is a live service co-op superhero action game set in a different universe than the MCU, similar but unique in its own way. The main story focuses on MS. MARVEL which was a cool direction that I personally liked but outside of the campaign is where the cracks started to show.
The game was highly repetitive with a huge grind for almost no rewards, the combat is fun especially when changing between the various heroes available, of which there was 5 originally with Kamala Khan (MS. MARVEL) joining during the story. However the general consensus was the lack of variety, replay value was lacking, it just did not have enough content.

Moving forward to now, August 2021, it is the start of a different story with the release of a free expansion known as ''War For Wakanda'', featuring the king of the nation himself, Black Panther. Now there has been 2 other heroes added, Kate Bishop and Hawkeye but they did not help in adding variety besides the characters themselves. Their stories feature the same enemy types and nothing majorly different to what the original games narrative offered on release.
However Black Panthers DLC really brings a fresh coat of paint Avengers much needed, which I for one am very happy with this positive new direction for the title given I paid £60 on day one to end up being very let down with the original product.

So what makes War For Wakanda different? well here is a quick list..
- New environments (Wakanda)
- New hero (Black Panther)
- Interesting new side characters
- UI & menu improvements
- Fresh narrative to follow
- Furthering the AIM storyline arc
- Added cosmetics
- Gameplay fixes, improvements and additions
- Puzzle elements feel more fleshed out
and more...
Overall I recommended re-downloading this game if you had deleted it but im not sure if it warrants a full purchase? maybe try a sale if your on the fence. I am not really a fan of Black Panther and knew nothing about the character outside the MCU movies but damn if this expansion has not made me appreciate the character, his heritage and home even more. T'challa (Black Panther) is voiced by our favourite God Of War, Kratos, so you will find some familiarity within your time in this new content for sure.
While War For Wakanda is a truly positive step forward into the right direction, the game is still lacking in many regards. Variation and a meaningful gaming loop being two prominent factors but most glaring of all, the promised Spiderman exclusive last year for the PlayStation version which fans are very vocal about their dismay. Square Enix have stated that he is due to make his debut later this year though which is exciting to finally hear.

At this point in time I would take my original thoughts and disregard them due to the recent additions and changes, it was a 5/10 and a purely dont touch and wait for new content. But in 2021? its a good change and I would adjust my thoughts to move it to a more stable grab it if you feel its for you as more content is coming soon plus Black Panther adds more variety and its worthy of a 7/10 in summer 2021.
